Wireless Network Support: Getting Started

Before connecting to the wireless network, users should first familiarise themselves with the Wireless Network Policy document.

All Staff and Students registered on the IT Services Active Directory will automatically be granted access (Authentication) to the wireless network using their login and password credentials.

Successful authentication enables secure, encrypted access to the wireless network.

To access the wireless network you will require

  • a compatible wireless LAN card or a device with a compatible integrated wireless network adapter
  • a client device that supports the wireless authentication and security mechanism, WPA2 (PEAP/MSCHAPv2).

IT Services currently supports the following Operating Systems for wireless connectivity:

  • Windows 7
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3
  • MAC OSX 1.4.X onwards

You may also be able to connect a device under a different operating system, however, IT Services can only support recommended systems.

Information regarding connection under Linux is provided here, and  through 3rd party sources here , and we are confident that most Linux distributions should be able to connect.
